Internet of Things: A Brief Introduction

Internet of Things

The term Internet of Things, also called the Internet of Everything is invented by Kevin Ashton. The Internet of Things or IoT is a system of connected devices, vehicles and other machines. It works on a concept of connecting many devices to the internet by assigning an IP address to each such as mobile phone, wearables, headphones, refrigerator, a fan, washing machine etc. Devices which are connected through the internet can collect and share data using installed sensors.

Real Life Examples of IoT
Smart thermostats: This smart device allows you to control room temperature through the internet, you can choose temperature by using your smartphone. A Smart thermostat from Nest is devices that you can use to control the room temperature using a smartphone. It learns from user behavior to set the temperature according to the time.

Amazon Echo: It works via voice assistant, Alexa, A user can speak with it to order the device to play music, get sports scores, schedule a ride, give a weather report, and more.

Fitbit One Wearables and Connected Cars also work with IoT technology.

These are some major advantages of IoT
With the help of IoT, machines can communicate which each other to perform tasks automatically. IoT allows a user to control the devices and machines through the internet and can take the benefits of IoT for sector like

Home and Consumer
Healthcare Industry
Retail

Home
With Internet of Things, we can manage concern related home like Security, Electronic Devices, Energy Maintenance etc. Controlling or managing machines like television, air conditioners, cleaners, or lighting system could be done via the Internet.

Healthcare Industry
IoT technology can exceedingly improve the healthcare industry, analyzing and curing a disease will become much easier than before. Managing medicines is also a big concern but through Internet of Things, it will be easier as well. IoT technology helps to take the advantage of sensors by creating its network which enhances monitoring of a patient’s health. For big hospitals, IoT gives easier way to store & analyze data for millions of patients.

Retail
Internet of Things will make effective handling of the supply chain, in-store inventory tracking, product placement, and increased customer experience as well.

IoT technology enhance machine to machine interaction without human interruption so it has unlimited possibilities that will change the human lifestyle and the World.
